Monday Open Thread

Clever Manka, · Categories: Open Thread

Amy took the week off for her birthday (Happy Birthday, Amy!), so no history lesson today. I’m not going to be around a whole lot today, either. Trying to take it easy for Kesha tonight. I called the theater on Friday and got something worked out with the office that they’ll let me and my party in before doors open so we can get in and seated without standing in line. So pretty much like reserved seating, only we get our pick of what’s left after the VIPs get in. Cross your fingers for me that it all works out and I’ll see everyone tomorrow!

Mankanauts, I have discovered how to make chamomile palatable to me! I boil water with masala spices, essentially (clover, ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, allspice, bay leaf, pepper, fennel), pour it at a rolling boil over the teabag and voila! I basically cannot taste the chamomile anymore. And BONUS – it's a way to have chai without the caffeine that apparently my aging fleshprison is not longer ok with after 3pm.

Also I lost my voice this weekend, and the colleague that likes my sound tapestry came to my office this am so that I could squeak "garbage fire" at him. ^_^ #blessed

Whoa, I need to write this down. I LIKE chamomile, but it still sounds so yummy.

O dang, i forgot to add "and a generous teaspoon of honey"!

protip – make your chai at home using the same concoction and a basic black tea (I like Assam, but others have different preferences)! The cinnamon and clove and bay leaf and cardamom (also I grate nutmeg in there) will all be good for more than one boil; i basically have a pot of water on the backburner throughout the winter ^_^

YES! I am so glad you're going. David Levithan raved about an east coast show a few weeks back and it seriously sounded like the most healing and rejuvenating (politically, but still) thing ever.

Happy birthday to Amy and happy show to Manka. May you both enjoy all the glitter you deserve!

LOVELY!! I'm glad you're going without too much hassle.

I cut my hand on a wine stopper this weekend. Beware the cute Halloween skull toppers that shatter into bits if you put the least bit of pressure on them. I got to watch the doc put three stitches in it. Yay, me.

AUGH! halfway home, get phonecall from Teenboy. "Mom, you know that *one* tree, the only tree, that I park my car under in the driveway? Well it fell on my car".

Between him, my mom, me, and a neighbor, we had enough hacksaws and pruners to eventually clear the car off. Thankfully it didn't even break off a mirror.

ETA: ugh, now ex is saying that because it was my tree I need to pay half the deductible because it turns out there is a dent. Ex's car, ex's insurance, my home policy said it was a car insurance issue. Not like I have money to give ex anyway. Not like he helped cut the tree off the car.

If anyone's interested, I started a secret fb group for my Insect Queen project.

Mainly because a friend have been chatting since August about it on messenger. We needed a better way to separate subjects.
